What do ya think?

I do like this shot, but there are some things which bother me about it. I am guessing this is another that was done available light. Not sure if you know what mode it was shot in and it may not have mattered, but I'm not sure about the softness/oof look to the names on some of the buildings.

The reflection is really nice, but you have a couple of blown out areas at the shore line below the buildings. Not sure what could have been done there to keep them from blowing out.

Aside from some of the technical faults like the blown out areas on the shoreline and the lack of sharpness , what concerns me most is the framing/composition. I think you have cut the image to closely at the top and included more water than needed. I think you were going for the inclusion of the full reflections of the buildings, which is usually a good thing to try and do, but in this particuliar scene it came at the expense of a stronger composition on the whole. I would have preferred to see this taken with the shoreline below center frame having less water and more sky and space above the buildings. This is not to say that this image is not good, but just my thoughts for improvement

I love the Inner Harbor area and would suggest the following:

1. The top half to two-third are all of this image that you need. The bottom just drags off into darkness.
2. The shutter appears to have be open a too long for a sharp (accutance, not focus) photograph as you are appearing to get bloom in the lights. It needs some adjustments there as well as some other commented on technical issues.
3. Try shooting the Harbor area as a series. Get in close on the courtyard. Shoot down along the edges of the shops and stores and restaurants from the walkways.
4. Work on capturing the lights displays and treatments througout the Harbor area.
5. There are always people shots.

This is a good idea, it just would be improved with some technical work. During warmer weather it would be interesting to try and capture boating activity on the Harbor itself! Best of luck and Happy 2006.
