Good idea. I would say that you probably needed a faster shutter speed (because DOF is necessarily short anyway) to really "freeze" the dog's facial expression. Also, the other dog needs to be a bit more in the frame I think. Had you not said anything, it might not be clear to everyone that the other shape is a dog... keep 'em coming.

I hear you regarding your feedback above.... this was more of a fun pic than a critique pic, but I just had to post it anyway! It has a good energy, and I thought the dog's expression was classic. :)

I hope more dog-lovers chime in and post their own pics! Let's show the cat lovers who the better pets are....

Stew, I like the expression of the Bull Terrier, but the other dog was just not captured right to add to this shot. I think the second dog is a distraction. I think if you crop this so that it is a portrait of the Bull, it works nice. Some more sharpness would be better as well. Keep it up. . .

Ok I don't have any dogs of my own but I do have two grandogs. My son left his two dogs with me for a week when he was attending a a meeting in NY. Two very well behaved girls.

the APBT looks like he is either not fond of the camera or sees something to the right that is not familiar. please take full body shots of both..... i'm a huge(pun intended) dog lover :D

The movement adds to the expression on the dog's face.
A bit like the early victorian photographs of our family, where the exposure was so long that they seem to have more than one expression at once.

The other dog is more of a blob and I'd either want to shoot wider and get both, or crop to get just the one.
Going too tight and pinching at the edges of the frame is, I'm told, my trademark in conference photos of speakers for work :(

Great photo and from what I can see, a beautiful dog! B&W works well. I like the photo as is.

The other dog that you can't really see in my post is a part husky (at least to my best guess - he's a rescue dog).

Cheers, Stew

The other one is not shy of the camera... you guessed right - he was looking away at that very moment unfortunately. The dog on the left is my downstair neighbor's dog Cassidy who I look after every once in a while, only because our dogs love each other so when my neighbor's in class she drops Cassidy off. The one on the right is mine. He's a pound puppy (well, he's 6 1/2 years old now). He's part husky I think, and orange. I'll post some more pics of him soon....
