Well Saturday nights Indiana State Football Championships had a couple huge surprises, especially for me.
My old school was at the Dome for the 6th times taking on a Catholic school powerhouse, and to get there they had to beat three other private schools including two Catholic schools.
Through the first quarter and most of the second the teams traded punts as both defenses held firm, but then Northwood began moving the ball. On 4th and 8 at the 25 Northwood brought in Notre Dame bound kicker Ryan Burkhart to try a field goal from the 25....Chatard blocked the kick.
With just 35 seconds remaining in the quarter Northwood was at the Chatard 10 and the now 15 year old freshman QB Skyler Titus threw a TD pass Brant Ehret, and with a PAT took a 7-0 lead.
Thats how the game ended too as the defensive struggle continued for the 3rd and 4th quarters.
Total offense: Northwood 213 Chatard 154.
My old school becomes the first to win a state championship with a losing regular season. It's the 4th time these two teams have met in the Dome, the 6th overall for Northwood and their first ever State Championship in football, and the schools second team sport championship. The photos below are from the game and post game.
