Has anyone heard of Aron Ralston? My girlfriend showed some of our vacation photos to here coworkers, and one of them said that they remind him of Aron Ralston. So I figured I would look up the Aron Ralston guy, and take a look at some of his photos. The only Aron Ralston that I can find is the guy who cut is own arm off a couple years ago while hiking. If you don't remember the story, a rock pinned his arm against a canyon wall, so he cut it off, then hiked to safety.

So is there a photographer named Aron Ralston?

The Aron Ralston who cut his arm off with a swiss army knife was hiking in a Southern Utah or Colorado canyon when he had his accident. So I imagine the reason the photos reminded them of him was the red, slickrock.

You were vacationing in Southern Utah, right? I saw all your photos in the gallery. They're nice, by the way. When were you there? I wonder if we crossed paths?

Hey PJ, I just saw your post the other day about being in Fruita CO. I stayed there 2 nights while on vacation. The first night was April 25. We hit CO National Monument the next morning then headed to Arches NP. Then off to Bryce, then Zion, then over to Vegas for a couple days. Then we headed to Page AZ, then the Grand Canyon. We stopped in Fruita again on the way home on May 1st. We got up the next morning and drove straight back to WI.

That could be the Aron Ralston link that he was refering too. Here I was thinking he was comparing me to a famos photog. I hope I don't have to start cutting off my limbs to make a name for myself. :)Thanks for taking a look at the photos in my gallery too!

We left San Jose on May 1st and we're riding Gooseberry Mesa, just south of Springdale, Utah, the next day. So we came very close. Although we were on very different trips. Unless you were on bike trails, we wouldn't have actually crossed "paths." :D

Zion is my favorite place on earth. I would love to have a hosue in Springdale. That might be one of the most perfect places to live, in my opinion. Hurricane and Virgin are practical seconds.

I'm right with you there on Zion! This was my 3rd trip there and I never get tired of it. I would have loved to have had more time to hang out there. My favorite photog, Michael Fatali, has a gallery in Springdale that I stop at every time I'm there. David Pettit also has a gallery there. I had never heard of him before, but his images are very similar to Fatali's. The biggest difference being the price. One of his images is about 1/3 of the cost of Fatali's. Fatali, does all his work in a traditional darkroom, where Pettit scans his film, but the end resluts are very similar. Fatali lives in the little town just down HWY 9 from Springdale, but I can't remember the name...

My trip didn't involve any bike baths, only paved roads and hiking trails. :)
