I have the Tamon 90mm and it is superb. Most 100mm macros have a really good reputation and are relatively inexpensive. The Sigma version is said to be very good and the Vivitar, too, which is only $100 or so.

What is the difference between a macro lens and lenses that magnify? I have three lenses (x2, 3, and 4) I've been wanting a macro lens but am wondering if I need one.

Macro lenses are lenses that are designed to focus closely. They extend quite a bit more than a regular lens and offer failry minute adjustments. You can use the X2, 3, etc. close-up lenses (or diopters) but the quality isn't as good as a maco lens and you end up moving the camer aback and forth to focus.
