OK so I just got a Nikon n80 after 10 years of owning a completely manual SLR. How much do I love this Nikon? A whole lot!!! BUT, I have one rather strange trouble with it when I use my AF Tamron (28-80) D type lense. The lense apeture itself opens to f3.5, but when I try to change the apeture setting through the body the largest I can get it to go to is f5.6. Weird huh? Has anyone else had this happen and if so, do I have any hope of fixing it? Comments, suggestions, am I missing something.....

From what it sounds like, the f/stop changes from f/3.5 to f/5.6 when you zoom through the lens. Right?
If that is the case, DON'T WORRY! It is a "symptom" shall we say of zooming on a zoom lens.
It is happens mostly with "consumer lens" it happens with all consumer lens regardless of the name.
Make sense?
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!

Brian's right. Unless it's a pretty big and heavy lens it's probably not a constant aperture lens. This means that it might be f3.5 at 28mm, but the maximum aperture at the long end (80mm) is f5.6. This varies from lens to lens - I have a 28-105 Nikon that's f3.5 to f4.5. It's the same way on a manual camera but more obvious on something like an N80.
