Chris, I love the colours in this, and particularly the way the sun is picking out the red of the fishing boat and reflecting (and contrasting) with the blue of the water. My main problem though is the big metal thing the boat is moored up to (I'm sure they must have a name but I can't think of it). Unfortunately it seems to dominate the foreground and it is competing with the red hull of the boat as the point on which your eye wants to settle.

I think it would have helped it you could have composed the shot to exclude this, and also to avoid chopping off the top of the mast.

regards,

matt

hi matt, thanks for the comments. I see what you mean about the mooring block. Originally, i liked it because i though tit added a sense of depth to the picture but you might be right, it might just weight the picture down. I tried cropping it, does this improve the picture?

Chris, for me that is a big improvement, it feels more balanced and much 'lighter' now. Nice work

I only echo matt - the second one is much better.

Chris,

Nice shot and lovely view of the bay! I would've cropped off some more on the left hand side. That bright spot is very overexposed, but even if you cropped it a sliver it would work!

Nice shot,

Jared

I think you nailed this one with your cropped version! I don't mind the bright spot in the sky one bit. I think it adds a little drama to the photo, with the dark clouds behind the ship on the right, and the bright sunrise/set on the left. A very soothing image, nice work!

thanks everyone for your comments, they've been very helpful, and the more i look at the photo, the more i prefer the cropped version also, so i'll stick with that one.

wow i actually like the metal thing :] i like the more...gritty feeling it gives the photo. if anything, there is a building in the background near the upper right hand side that is cut off...that is where my eye goes to. but i love the colors in this.

thanks erin for the comments. I think a reshoot there is in order and i'll see if i can put more emphasis on the boats and metal moorings for different angles and patterns

I really like the colors and lighting. However, the intended subject escapes me. I'm sorry. If the boats are the intended subject, they are lost in the overall scene. This shot would work as an introductory shot in a series to tell a story that eventually leads to specific boat details and the fishing experience.

I just liked the colors and lighting which gives this place a certain warmth. This is, for me anyway, a landscape shot so there is no subject as such, just a pleasant and pretty fishing harbor which makes for a nice overall picture. The boats are a part of this but certainly not all of it.

Thanks for your comments
