View Full Version : My 1000th post: somethin' a berry berry special...
Asylum Steve 04-03-2005, 07:41 AM Hey all,
Now I'm not one who normally pays much attention to the number of posts a member has, but I have to admit 1000 is indeed a milestone.
And with my commercial career back in full bloom, and most if not all of the credit for my "comeback" due to the friendship, support, and enthusiasm I've gotten from this site, I feel some celebration is in order... :)
Attached is a pic Sebastian recently sent me of a stained glass piece I created for him to give to his longtime girlfriend, Rhiannon. The design is based on a photo he took of a violet (her favorite flower).
As the large glass "globs" are a tad washed out in his shot, I've also included one of the last pics I took of the work before I brought it to Chicago.
Some of you may remember I posted a thread last year when I was working on the piece, so I thought you'd enjoy seeing the finished product.
I love working with stained glass, and only wish I had more time to complete all the design ideas I have in my head. I find it's a great organic alternative to my hours sitting at a computer (I set up everything and work outside), as well as a perfect combination of the two (I design all my work in photoshop using actual glass image files as fills for the various pieces).
I'll post some more pics of the production soon...
Yaay, I get to be the first to congratulate you! Not only for your 1000th post, but for all the goodness coming your way. A very much deserved congratulations Steve!

Speaking of stained glass, I haven't done anything!

Asylum Steve 04-03-2005, 08:21 PM Beautiful stained glass work :D
Well, it's a stepping stone (uh, not literally, that would be mosaic, har har). I learned much during the work on that piece, but I know I can do better...
Asylum Steve 04-03-2005, 08:28 PM "It's about time you finished that!..."
I actually completed the piece in October of last year, and gave it to Seb at the Chicago Gathering in November. I have witnesses. So there... :p
"Glad to hear that all is well again in your life Steve..."
Well. I wouldn't go THAT far, Brian, but recent networking has led to some new working relationships that look like they're going to open some pretty exciting doors. And I fully expect to start getting published again soon...
natatbeach 04-03-2005, 10:15 PM hip hip HOORAY! it's about time... ;)

And the stained glass is gorgeous!
You are a very talented man!
Asylum Steve 04-04-2005, 09:37 AM I appreciate the kind words...
I probably should mention that the only down side to all of this is that I have next to no free time now to spend here shmoozing with everyone like I used to.
Kind of a cruel irony, but I think that's a tradeoff we'd all take to have careers in photography doing what we love... ;)
Asylum Steve 04-04-2005, 12:50 PM Your stained glass stepping stone is BEAUTIFUL!
I appreciate the thought, Penny. I hope you find some good luck with your situation soon.
Oh, and just to correct you, the glass piece is a hanging piece, done in the traditional Tiffany style of copper foil and solder. If you STEPPED on it, it would break into many pieces, and I would probably cry... :( :)
adina 04-04-2005, 01:48 PM Congrats Steve, on both your flourishing career, and 1000th post. And a beautiful stained glass piece. Which I did see finished in Chicago, it's even better in person.
