We were down there last month and it was all still up and running...

Everybody has been trying to find out what is going on. The Cafe as of yesterday morning was closed and a cup of coffee was sitting on a table by a window as if every one was just run out the door!

The Park District is having a rather huge internal struggle(scandal) and info is scarce at best.

The best info (from the trades people who actually work on stuff) is that the Bean is Broke!

Apparently the park doesn't meet a lot of construction and safety requirements and needs to be "fixed". Now mind you, there's conservatively 12+ figures of taxpayer money in this thing. How you spend in the billions and nobody knows where much of the money went is a good question!

Chicago politics is at play here and the next few weeks ought to tell a great story. The Trib and the Reader have been looking into this whole thing for quite awhile and we'll see what tale the tell.
